Wildlife Explorers: Animal Scientist

Girl Scouts will learn all about animal habitats. First, the day will start with a tour of our nature boardwalk and discuss the various wild animal habitats located in the wetlands. Then upon returning to the center we will focus primarily on the habitat pertaining to the American Alligator. Then, the Girl Scouts will be given various tools, materials and ideas for creating an animal shelter of their own. They will work together to construct mini dioramas portraying various wild animal shelters found in this region of the Rio Grande Valley/South Padre Island wetlands. Finally, the Girl Scouts will learn about the importance of preserving endangered habitats and how to help protect the animals in them.

Levels: Juniors (4^th – 5th grade)

Cost: $25 per Girl Scout

• Includes a South Padre Island Birding & Nature Center patch

• Girl Scouts will receive a certificate of completion recognizing their progress toward the Animal Habitat Badge (badge not included)

• Troops must provide at least one adult leader or volunteer

• Parents/guardians attending independently may attend at a discounted rate of $10
