Position Title

Description of Duties

Information Desk
  • Primary duties encompass warmly greeting visitors and providing informative responses to inquiries.

  • Ideal candidate possesses a personable demeanor and comprehensive knowledge of South Padre Island's diverse flora, fauna, tourist attractions, accommodations, and dining options.

​

  • Preference will be given to candidates with credentials as a Master Naturalist.

Bilingual Interpreter
  • Primary duty entails effectively communicating the mission of the South Padre Island Birding, Nature & Alligator Sanctuary mission in a second language.

​

  • Proficiency in any language is taken into consideration and highly valued.

​

  • Ideal candidate possesses a personable demeanor and comprehensive knowledge of South Padre Island's diverse flora, fauna, tourist attractions, accommodations, and dining options.

​

  • Preference will be given to candidates with credentials as a Master Naturalist.

School Field Trip/Program
Guide/Assistant
  • Primary duties encompass leading groups and conducting informative tours.

​

  • Ideal candidate possesses a personable demeanor and comprehensive knowledge of South Padre Island's diverse flora, fauna, tourist attractions, accommodations, and dining options.

​

  • Preference will be given to candidates with credentials as a Master Naturalist.

Birding Tour Guide
  • Must have good knowledge of local bird diversity and their natural histories. 

​

  • Must be friendly and comfortable with speaking to a small group and be able to commit to guiding at least on morning tour per week.

Animal Care Assistance
  • Volunteering during peak tourist season (such as Spring Break and Summer Break) is requested. Availability on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12PM to 4PM is preferred.

  • Primary duties include assisting Animal Care team in providing visitors with exciting, interactive photo opportunities with our alligators and snakes and cleaning animal tanks and enclosures as needed, while helping staff provide the optimal care for our resident animals. Volunteers that are confident working with reptiles are preferred.

  • Must be friendly and comfortable engaging in outdoor activities for prolonged periods of time.

Garden Maintenance
  • Volunteering during "Habitat Tuesday" required for 4 weeks. Other volunteering times available after completion.  (required to learn plants and native gardening techniques)                                                                                                                                                        

  • Primary duties involve ensuring the health of our gardens and habitats by removing invasive plants and maintaining our seasonal bird feeders.

​

  • Volunteers with proficient native plant identification skills are preferred.

​

  • Preference will be given to candidates with credentials as a Master Naturalist.

Special Events
Assistant
  • Primary duties involve actively participating in fundraising efforts and increasing awareness about the center's mission.

​

  • Essential skills include fundraising experience, a wide network of social contacts, and strong interpersonal abilities.
