Wildlife Explorers: Become a Mangrove Expert

Girl Scouts will first be taught importance of trees and how they survive using photosynthesis. Then we will then go over how flowers turn into fruits. Then we will take the nature trail tour and discuss mangroves growing in this region. Next, we will return to the building to start a nature collage full of trees while reviewing the native trees found throughout Texas. Finally, we will explore the connection between people and trees through an education video, followed by a discussion on ways we can help trees to continue to thrive in the environment.

Levels: Cadets (6^th – 8^th grade)

Cost: $25 per Girl Scout

• Includes a South Padre Island Birding & Nature Center patch

• Girl Scouts will receive a certificate of completion recognizing their progress toward the Trees Badge (badge not included)

• Troops must provide at least one adult leader or volunteer

• Parents/guardians attending independently may attend at a discounted rate of $10

Minimum: 5 participants

Maximum: 20 participants
