About the Event
Girl Scouts will first be given a tour by our master naturalist of our local plants and butterfly garden. They will also learn about where certain plants can grow in proximity to each other and the importance of planting local plants for the birds and bugs. They will then be provided with local plant seeds to choose from, individual flowering pots and soil. The wildlife educator will then remind the participants of the needs of plants and how to maintain their mini garden. They will also be able to decorate their pots with paints, jewels and fairy dust!
This activity will satisfy the following requirements to earn the Gardener Badge:
Visit a garden
Explore garden design
Learn how to choose garden plants
Experiment with seeds
Grow your own garden
This program supports progress toward earning the Gardener Badge while encouraging creativity, curiosity, and appreciation for nature. Event limited to 20 participants. Register now!
Levels: Juniors (4th & 5th Grade)
Cost: $25 per Girl Scout
Includes a South Padre Island Birding, Nature Center & Alligator Sanctuary patch
Girl Scouts will receive a certificate of completion recognizing their progress toward the Gardener badge (badge not included).
Troops must provide at least one adult leader or volunteer
Parents/guardians attending independently may attend at a discounted rate of $10. Pay upon arrival.
