Zimco Marine "Shrimping Industry Tour & Boil"

The Zimco Marine story begins in 1952 when founder, Walter Zimmerman, established Marine Mart in Port Isabel, TX. Shortly after acquiring his first boat in 1960, Walter, a hard-working engineer, decided he could design a better shrimp boat trawler, and he built his first shrimp boat in 1961. Walter quickly became a pioneer in the design and construction of shrimp trawlers, and under his leadership, Zimco Marine company built over 300 shrimp boats between 1961 and 1999.

Texas Gold shrimp was established by Les and Larry Hodgson in 1977, and since 1979 Texas Gold shrimp has been distributed throughout the United States. Starting in 1986, the Zimmerman family fleet has been the exclusive producer of shrimp for Texas Gold. In 2015, the Zimmerman family’s company Co-Pak acquired the Texas Gold brand from the Hodgson brothers. Zimco Marine is now one of the few companies that is completely integrated in the shrimp industry because they own and operate their own fleet of boats, own their brand (Texas Gold) and are co-owners of their processing and packaging plant.

Dockside Exploration: Visit one of the Gulf's largest shrimping operations and tour a working shrimp boat.

Shrimp Boil: Enjoy freshly cooked Gulf shrimp prepared on-site after your tour. (Quantity is that of an appetizer)

Interactive Demonstrations: Learn how wild-caught shrimp are processed

Docked Boat Tour: You will access one of the boats but not leave the harbor.

Accessibility: The shrimp boat does not accommodate walkers or wheelchairs. However, those with special needs can still enjoy the experience by viewing the boat from the dock."

What to Wear: Comfortable walking shoes/Prepare for cold outdoor weather/ Bring water

Zimco will also encourage folks to buy their shrimp at their on-site store at the end! Bring your coolers and fill up on delicious wild-caught, Gulf Shrimp!
